The side effects of SARMS (selective androgen receptor modulators) are small therefore are not an issue not unless high dosages of SARMS are used for a long time. When used for more than 4 weeks in large doses, SARMS will become a real issue. When you have used it for a long time, you will be affected by gynecomastia, the development of male breasts. Long term use of SARMS among women will cause Virilization, which is the development of male characteristics. In extreme cases, Virilization symptoms will cause infertility in women since it will disrupt the menses of extreme female users. Other Virilization characteristics include development of the Adam's apple and the deepening of the voice. Non-target tissues like the sebaceous glands and the sexual organs will be affected by SARMS and side effects like testicular atrophy and acne will accompany any Virilization and gynecomastia. For those who have oily skin, acne will definitely be worse for them.
To investigate the interaction of androgens with the IGF system, Elmlinger et al. (2001) compared the expression of IGFs and IGFBPs in cultured genital skin fibroblasts from 9 patients with the syndrome of complete androgen insensitivity with that in genital skin fibroblasts from 10 normally virilized males. Complete AIS genital skin fibroblast strains produced significantly lower IGF2 ( 147470 ) and IGF2 mRNA than control genital skin fibroblast strains. The production of IGFBP2 ( 146731 ) was also decreased in complete AIS genital skin fibroblasts, whereas that of IGFBP3 ( 146732 ) did not differ. The authors concluded that in addition to the endocrine actions of IGF1 ( 147440 ), IGF2, and IGFBP2, they are also involved as local growth factors in the mediation of androgen action and growth of genital tissues.
